[JCHE] Owl Pellet Study w/the Bugman! 11/8

JCHE would like to invite you to come and enjoy another night with the Bug Man!

On Friday evening at 7:00
p.m., November 8th, at West Main Church of Christ, we will be hosting the Bug Man who will be doing an Owl Pellet Study. Participants get "hands-on" with real owl pellets...we get to play DETECTIVE with latex gloves, tweezers and magnifying glasses to find out what the owls have eaten. We will discuss owls in the environment and the part they play in the food-web cycle. It also includes HANDS-ON time with a taxidermied barn-owl and owl calls.

If you have never had the opportunity to dissect owl pellets, it is fascinating. Owl pellets are the oval-shaped pellets that owls "cough up" after they have eaten. The Bug Man will explain in more detail just what that entails. Don't miss this fun chance to do this great science project!

If you would like to attend, we ask that you let Joan Consiglio know so she can get a count for set-up and materials. Please contact her by Thursday, November 7th. Call her at 541-826-9405 and let her know how many in your family will be there. The cost if FREE for JCHE subscribers and $5.00 per family for non-subscribers. You may pay at the door. This will also be an opportunity to sign up that evening to be a subscriber which is $10.00 per 12 months and includes the bimonthly newsletter and discounts to events, among other things! If you have any questions, please call Joan or Therese at 541-826-3560

Tutor available for dyslexic students

From Denise Purrier:

1 in 5 children have Dyslexia.  I spent 2 years trying to teach my son to read three letter words.  He can read now, but I wish I had known it was dyslexia because they learn differently.
I am a Tutor for Children who struggle to read and spell because of Dyslexia.
The child most likely to benefit from this type of one-on-one tutoring: is a terrible speller, has great difficulty sounding out an unknown word-despite being taught phonics, has enormous difficulty memorizing-especially math facts, often has a very odd pencil grip, poor penmanship, and finds tying their shoes and telling time on a clock difficult.
That's the type of student I specialize in and they are likely to be dyslexic.
I tutor my own children using the Barton Reading and Spelling System and am currently looking to tutor additional children in the Grants Pass area.  If you recognize the signs of dyslexia in your struggling learner, contact me to discuss the possibility of tutoring your child or even help you find out more information. Thanks, Denise(541) 237-9091
