On Wednesday, June 3rd, 2015 at approximately 7:00 PM a mountain lion was sighted in the area of NW Prospect Ave., near Gilbert Creek.

Kids Bowl Free!
Select bowling centers and schools around the country are participating in the Kids Bowl Free program. This program is designed by bowling centers to give back to the community and provide a safe, secure, and fun way for kids to spend time this summer.
When you register, be sure to tell them The HS Gathering sent you by entering hsgathering@gmail.com where it asks who referred you.
Children whose age does not exceed a limit by a participating bowling center are eligible to register for 2 free games a day, all summer long, courtesy of the participating bowling centers along with the schools and organizations.

The Rogue Valley Symphony is playing in Grants Pass Sunday afternoon. Student vouchers (download your student voucher form HERE) allow one student and accompanying adult to get in free, with discounts for additional kids/adults. You are allowed to use multiple vouchers.
If you've never been to the RVS, treat your family to a musical feast. Voucher holders MUST arrive between 1:30 and 2:30 for the 3:00 concert at GPHS PAC. You might even YouTube the music ahead of time. No children under 5 allowed.
The music director (conductor) gives a talk about the music at 2:00. In the past, voucher holders were given a tour behind the stage. www.rvsymphony.org
Winter's Wonderland kids nature programs
A weekly Saturday program will be offered at Pacifica community center and botanical sanctuary in the Williams/Provolt area. Kids age 6-12 can spend Saturdays outside, engaging with the winter landscape and learning about the cycles and patterns in nature and how they relate to our everyday lives. A rotating collective of skilled and fun-loving local instructors will provide meaningful mentorship and guidance. Saturdays in February (7, 14, 21, 28th) 10am-3pm cost is $30 weekly, siblings discounted optional 9 am drop off with notice for $5 additional weekly fee Kids will be asked to bring a bag lunch and snacks, a water bottle, raingear, extra socks, waterproof shoes Explorations include: -nature awareness games and exercises -nature observation, tracking, birds and wildlife, winter botany -survival skills like friction fire and primitive shelter -creative play in nature, fairy houses -songs and storytelling for earth wisdom -community and interpersonal relationships, deep listening Nature connected kids grow into nature connected communities! Looking for more violin students ages 7-up. I love teaching kids and helping make music fun. I teach theory and use classical/fiddle books. Technique is so important how to properly hold a bow and have excellent posture. Your child will learn how to read music while having fun.

Hey all! There is a program starting that I was asked to share with you all. It is called Concerned Youth and it is a new organization aimed at helping kids from 12-18 become active & productive members of our society by doing community service type projects. It will be supervised by local youth pastors from different churches, but parents are always welcome to stay. The initial kick off is May 3rd, time to be determined, where the kids and adults will start at dutch bros on 6th street and 'march' down 6th and back up 7th streets where they will be doing good deeds along the way {such as picking up garbage, etc.}. Joe Chandler, who heads this up, would like to see this first march have TONS of kids participating. You can call him @ 541-295-1546 for additional info. I can personally vouch for Joe, as his daughter and I have been best friends since 6th grade and he is an active member/establisher of the homeless teen events throughout town. 1 in 5 children have Dyslexia. I spent 2 years trying to teach my son to read three letter words. He can read now, but I wish I had known it was dyslexia because they learn differently.
I am a Tutor for Children who struggle to read and spell because of Dyslexia.
The child most likely to benefit from this type of one-on-one tutoring: is a terrible speller, has great difficulty sounding out an unknown word-despite being taught phonics, has enormous difficulty memorizing-especially math facts, often has a very odd pencil grip, poor penmanship, and finds tying their shoes and telling time on a clock difficult.
That's the type of student I specialize in and they are likely to be dyslexic.
I tutor my own children using the Barton Reading and Spelling System and am currently looking to tutor additional children in the Grants Pass area. If you recognize the signs of dyslexia in your struggling learner, contact me to discuss the possibility of tutoring your child or even help you find out more information. California Theater Center Proudly Presents: Jack and the Beanstalk
Follow the lively adventures of young Jack as he acquires the magic beans in trade for his beloved cow and encounters the evil giant and his wife at the top of the beanstalk. Announcing Fall 2013 Classes for Academic Year 2013-14.
Offering the following classes:
Excellence in Writing
Apologia Physics
Advanced Math Lab
Courses include video instruction, which will be viewed in my home. Cost is dependent on enrollment, varying between $5-12.50/hr. Classes will meet once a week for two hours.
Excellence in Writing Course will target 12-and-up, but younger academically-advanced students can also apply. Course materials and purchases will be chosen according to current needs of students. Materials will be drawn from Andrew Pudewa's Institute for Excellence in Writing. Also, grammar and spelling will be coached if there is a need. This will dovetail well into speech club preparation, as students will read their work aloud in class and learn to use MLA format for speech competition. Enrollment Limit: eight students. Beginning September 17, and running for 24 weeks. Tuesdays 9am-11am.
Apologia Physics is a high school lab course requiring purchase of the Apologia Physics 2nd edition textbook, solutions manual, and some lab materials. Students will be required to do all written work, notes, lab write-ups, and tests. VIdeo instruction by Rusty Hughes of Apologia will be viewed in class and labs will also be done together as time allows. Enrollment Limit eight students, including my son Caleb. Beginning September 10, 2013 and running 32 weeks. Tuesdays 11:15am-1:45pm with a half-hour lunch break; bring a sack lunch.
Advanced Math is for Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Pre-calculus and Calculus students. Math Classes will be ability-grouped and scheduled on Tuesday or Wednesday afternoons. Video instruction and online tutorials will be utilized.
To hold your place in the courses, send a $25 deposit per student to my PayPal account at ardensleadd@gmail.com. Then send me an email with your students' names, ages, and current level of attainment in the courses selected.
In the event of a class cancellation, your deposit will be returned. If you drop enrollment prior to the start of classes, deposit will be returned. After classes begin, no returns will be given.
