Classical conversations

From Sarah Ochs:

Hi, my name is Sarah Ochs and I will be holding an information meeting at me home (1876 Roberts Rd Medford, OR 97504) this Monday June 30 at 6:30 p.m. Come and join me and see how Classical Conversations can help you as you homeschool your Junior High Student.

My Top 5 Ways to save money at the Jackson Co fair!

My updated list for 2014!

Looking for ways to save money at the fair? Here's my TOP 5 LIST:

#5~ PARKING
Regular parking fee: $4 at the fairgrounds
SAVE by parking for FREE at Crater High School and taking the shuttle over for $1/person (roundtrip). Of course, this is only a savings for groups of less than 4. Large family? Go ahead and park at the fairgrounds for $4/vehicle.

Parking at the fair is now FREE on FRIDAY (7/18) thanks to the Coquille Indian Tribe, and The Mill Casino

#4~ RIDE TICKETS
Regular price for ride tickets is somewhere around $1 each and you usually need between 3-5 tickets per ride, if I'm not mistaken. (We don't do a lot of rides, if any, when we go.)
SAVE by buying an all day unlimited rides wristband for the earlybird price of $25 (at the fair, it's $30), available at the fair office, Sherm's Thunderbird, or Food 4 Less. Looking to save more? Skip the rides all together! There's still plenty to see and do :)

#3~ FOOD
Fair food is a wide variety of overpriced fried "delicacies", but if you're like my family, there's that one treat you look forward to each year.
SAVE by eating a full meal at home! Keep your eyes open for the FREE water cups available to stay hydrated.  And when the time comes, only buy that "must have" treat...and share it! (Not recommended for ice cream cones, if that's your thing!)

By the way, if you want French fries, the basket of fries in the food court is a HUGE amount for 4 people to share and only a couple bucks. Just grab plenty of napkins!

#2~ ADMISSION
Regular adult admission: $10 per day
*NEW THIS YEAR*Kids 12 & Under: FREE!!
Seniors (Ages 62-74): $6
Ages 75 & Over: Free
Sunday is FREE Admission for everyone!
The good news is they are offering Pre-Fair tickets fir only $9, available at the Fair Office, Food 4 Less, and Thunderbird.
For my family of 4, with only one "child", that means $27-30 right at the gate (plus the $4 to park!). If you have a larger family or plan to spend all day, this will eat up your funds real fast!
Which leads me to...

My #1 way to save money at the fair-
be a part of the fun!
GET A FREE ADMISSION TICKET by entering an open class exhibit! Children under 17 have to enter a minimum of 1 junior open class exhibit to get their FREE admission ticket, adults must enter at least 3 to get theirs. But HURRY! You only have until 5pm this Friday, June 27th to get your ENTRY FORM turned in!

Feel free to share YOUR tips for saving money at the fair!

She especially enjoyed the fact that you set something on fire or blew something up each day, and loved making a pickle glow. There wasn't anything she would change! Thanks again for a wonderful experience!" Emily Iboa

Classical Conversations Practicum

Classical Conversations Practicum

Please join us for an Information Meeting on May 19th @ 6:30pm at Cornerstone Christian Church, 608 N Barlett, to learn more about Classical Christian education and how Classical Conversations can equip you to home school your children. This exciting program combines a Biblical worldview with classical tools for Pre-K to 6th (Foundations/Essentials) and 7th to 12th (Challenge). Please RSVP by phone or email to Stacey Christian at staceyccmom@gmail.com or 541-821-3914.

Classical Conversations is also offering a free 3-day conference for parents on classical, Christian home schooling. Join veteran home schooling parents for three days of encouragement and inspiration as we seek to understand the classical model and learn how to apply it in Christian homeschooling. Practicums have been called, “…a pep rally, a Bible study, and a college course.” We hope you’ll find the encouragement and enrichment that helps you get started homeschooling and keeps you going all the way through high school. This year we will be digging deeper into understanding the art of rhetoric which is misunderstood today, but is a powerful tool not just in school, but also in the “real world”. Rhetoric has founded nations, excited revolutions, and negotiated peace. It has ushered in great awakenings, and lulled babies to sleep. Join us this summer as we figure out what rhetoric really is and how our children can become masters of it and not slaves to it. While you learn, your children learn, too! Economically-priced day camps are available for students of all ages. Your students are sure to enjoy the group learning environment, whether they are being cared for in our nursery; playing and singing in our play camps; memorizing and drawing God’s world in our geo-drawing camps; or learning about language, writing, science, logic, debate or public speaking in our academic camps for older students. Advance registration for student camps is required. Please register online at classicalconversations.com.

Summer Science with Steve Holst!

Wonders of Science Summer Camps

We had such a great time last year with a camp for 6-13 year olds that we are adding a camp for older students, or for those who are ready for more challenging labs, yet still with tons of fun demonstrations.

Science Camp 1 is much of the same material we covered last year - Polymers, Density, Atomic Structure and Chemistry, Air Pressure/Flight and Rockets.

Science Camp 2 (ages 10-15)  will have topics such as Chemistry, Geology, Biology, Light/Electricity and Magnetism, and Physics.  Our last day will be spent assembling and then firing off C-engine rockets.

Each camp is filled with exciting  demonstrations and hands-on science.

The location will again be Madrone Trail Charter School on Ross Lane in Medford for the week of June 16 - 20th.   If there is enough interest in Grants Pass we would love to do a camp there sometime in July, but right now are not planning on it.  You can find more info at the website -www.livingwatershomeschoolcourses.com

Our goal with the camps is to light a fire in the hearts of children to delight in studying God's creation.  Let me know if you have any questions.
