For families with autistic children

From the Randall Theatre:

"SPECIAL FREE SHOWING OF "LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS" FOR FAMILIES WITH AUTISTIC CHILDREN - TUESDAY, MAY 12TH AT 7 PM.

This past Sunday, a family with an autistic child felt they had to leave the matinee showing due to a less than patient audience member who just did not understand the needs of the child.

Although they did not have to leave, they felt it was the right thing to do. Once I found out about the situation, I asked the cast and crew if we could do a special show for this family and the response was a resounding "YES" from everyone. Once I spoke to this family, we both agreed that it would be a wonderful opportunity to invite other families with autistic children.

If you know of any families that have a child or children with Autism that might want to come, please have them call the theater to arrange for their free tickets. 541-632-3258."

YOU'RE INVITED :)

Living Lessons: Learning from Everyday Life and the Occasional Field Trip
Thursday, September 4 at 7:00pm
River Valley Church 405 NE Sixth Street, Grants Pass OR, Family Center A

Wondering how to get the most out of your homeschooling experience? Lessons don't have to begin and end sitting around the kitchen table. Thankfully, homeschooling is a lifestyle that allows for learning opportunities wherever you go. Learn to expand your classroom to the world around you! Plus, you'll also learn how to plan a field trip from start to finish.

Tika Weeks, of The HS Gathering of Southern Oregon, homeschools her 2 boys and has taught classes and workshops to children and adults for over 20 years. From arts and crafts, to science and history, Tika is always looking for ways to combine subjects and take learning outside of the box and walls of her home.

Family Fun! Million Minute Family Challenge

Homeschool Families! This is perfect for you!
This is the first year our family has signed up for the Million Minute Family Challenge and we logged our first 19 minutes (it was a quick game before bedtime!) tonight. Our whole family is looking forward to playing more games together and trying some new ones too. This is a great challenge for families who like to:
  • spend time together
  • make memories together
  • laugh together
  • play together

Join the 11th annual Million Minute Family Challenge™!
September 1 - December 31, 2011
Groups join the Million Minute Family challenge because it is an easy, yet effective way to re-energize and give incentive to spending time with family or friends. Board games and card games offer true face-to-face interaction that is disappearing in our daily lives. Playing a game creates a relaxed environment to converse, laugh and really get to know one another, and all of this can be accomplished in as little as 20 minutes.

For more information or to register your family, homeschool group, or ?, go to http://www.millionminute.com/!

HSG- Crater Lake Field Trip, Fri Oct 14th

Wizard Island at Crater Lake National Park
HSG- Crater Lake Field Trip, Fri Oct 14thA field trip to Crater Lake National Park has been planned for October 14th!
Some of the topics covered include geology, watersheds, and plant and animal adaptations. This ranger-led program is geared for students 4th grade-8th grade, but the Park Ranger Education Coordinator was happy to work with our "multi-age" group to bring all school-aged children*. The older students students will have the opportunity to lead us through a GPS earthcaching segment.

This is a FREE field trip and park admission is waived for our group. We can make arrangements to carpool up there, as/if needed.

To participate, I must have the following information ASAP:
YOUR FIRST & LAST NAME
NAME & AGE OF EACH CHILD
YOUR PHONE NUMBER

*Younger siblings are welcome to join our group, however they must be able to walk with the group (please don't depend on strollers, as the rangers can not guarantee that all areas will be accessible).

We are able to have a maximum of 30 students (including siblings) and must have at least 6 parent-leaders available when we divide into groups. These would be parents without younger children to attend to, so please let me know if that is something you can help with:)

Thank you! This is bound to be a fun and exciting educational opportunity!
Any questions or to register, please contact: Tika Weeks  hsgathering@gmail.com
