Introduction to Programming class

INTRODUCTION TO PROGRAMMING
Do you have what it takes to be a computer geek? (Do you have an aptitude for or interest in computer programming? Or do you want to find out if you do?)

We are going to be offering an “Introduction to Programming” course on Monday nights starting April 30th for 5 weeks (skipping Memorial Day.) We’ll be discussing the various types of careers in this field, practicing logic and deductive reasoning for problem solving, learning basic programming concepts, and testing the concepts by seeing which team can program their robotic car to autonomously finish a maze in the least amount of time.

The class is going to meet at the Gold Hill Library on April 30th, May 7th, 14th, 21st, and June 4th from 6:30 - 8:30PM. The final competition will be held at a BBQ at our farm in Sam’s Valley on Saturday, June 9th. The cost for the course is $125 and includes the classes and team use of a Lego Mindstorms robotics kit. Anyone with serious interest is welcome to attend -- the level of the instruction will be generally targeted towards junior-high / high-school age students.

Additional notes:
1. If there is interest in a similar class directed towards younger students please let me know.
2. I plan on offering this same course again in the fall.
3. I plan on also offering in the fall an “introduction to the computer” course.
